Parish Nursing is also called Faith Community Nursing and has it’s roots in the church. Since the beginning of the Christian Church, believers have been called upon to take care of their bodies and to care for the sick. These are two of the key concepts of our health ministry here at Christ Church.
Faith Community Nursing is an official nursing specialty recognized by the American Nurses Association. It is defined in the Scope and Standards of Practice as
“The specialized practice of professional nursing that focuses on the intentional care of the spirit as part of the process of promoting wholistic health and preventing or minimizing illness in a faith community.”
So, my “elevator speech” about what I do is that I work as a health and wellness resource for the congregation and surrounding community.
